This is an extremely simple bill that amends IC 31-40-1-2 at (e) by striking the first “not” and the words following “Indiana” from the sentence.
(e) The department is not responsible for payment of any costs or expenses for housing or services provided to or for the benefit of a child placed by a juvenile court in a home or facility located outside Indiana, if the placement is not recommended or approved by the director of the department or the director's designee.
As I recall this matter being discussed in committee a few years ago the purpose was to allow for easier placement in suitable facilities for children who are CHiNS cases. Primarily cases in counties bordering other states or children who require specialized care would be affected.
